Jack, the Story of a Beaver: The Story of a Beaver
Published in Hardcover by Fitzhenry & Whiteside Ltd (October, 2002)
Authors: Shirley Woods and Celia Godkin
Average review score:

A very highly recommended true-to-life adventure
Written by Shirley Woods and enhanced with occasional black-and-white illustrations by Celia Godkin, Jack: The Story Of A Beaver is the story of a young beaver who, along with his three siblings, learns quickly that even their lodge is not always safe because bears, wolves, bobcats, trappers, and even birds of prey are a constant threat to them. Even with Mother, Father, the yearlings, and their old uncle working hard to protect them, only Jack and his sister out of the original litter of four survive to see their first summer of life on the pond. As Jack matures he becomes a working member of the beaver colony felling trees, repairing the lodge, and foiling trappers. Eventually it is Jack's turn to leave the colony, find a mate, and establish a home of his own. Jack, The Story Of A Beaver is an accurate, entertaining, informative, and very highly recommended true-to-life adventure that will thrill and educate young readers about the fascinating and resource beaver.

The Jackal Awakens: Some Aspects of a Gay Life
Published in Paperback by Millivres Books (April, 1995)
Author: David Patrick Beavers
Average review score:

Passtionate complexity and growth
After reading the first book, I ran out and picked up this sequel to it, I found this one to be an even more rich and complex story of growth and introspection in its portrayal of gay life and love with all its multi-leveled hues of anguish and joy. The writer can bring alive nuance in a microcosm that most of us have lived and in doing so show up the possibilities of hope to be found in the dreams we have that we perhaps fear

Jackal in the Dark
Published in Paperback by Millivres Books (May, 1994)
Author: David Patrick Beavers
Average review score:

Deceptively simple/subtly complex
I was quite surprised by this one. Thought it'd be an easy airplane read. From the get-go, I found myself engaged in this small tale of truths about relationships and unrequited love. It really is an everyman story about the complexities of youth and rejection and lonliness and want and the beauty in the ugliness and the ugliness in the beauty therein. Highly affecting

Man Who Swam with Beavers
Published in Paperback by Coffee House Press (01 May, 2001)
Author: Nancy Lord
Average review score:

A delight to read
There is nothing "traditional" about this book. Each story offers a new twist to an old tale that launches the reader into strange landscapes, real and imaginary. We're privy to the thoughts of a bear about to marry a woman who wants it all; a wolf-dog who eyes the smooth, white necks of anti-fur activists as they howl at a protest rally; and to a man's tormented dreams of the animals he's killed. Nancy Lord's sharp humor and sense of justice emerges in these stories. Each one opens out into the wider spectrum of living honorably. Sometimes gruesome, often funny, these stories are inventive and a delight to read.

Men Who Made the Monsters
Published in Paperback by DIANE Publishing Co (August, 1996)

Average review score:

Great Book on Special Effects Pioneers
There is no better biography of Willis O'Brien the man who brought dinosaurs to life and of his protege Ray Harryhausen who made more dinos move and was largely responsible for the original Mighty Joe Young. In addition, there are fine pieces on James Whale, Terence Fisher, and Freddie Francis who invented and re-invented the modern gothic horror film.

Space Beaver Volume Two

Average review score:

History In the Making!
Before there was Transmetropolitan, there was Space Beaver! See where it all began for Darick Robertson by reading how he wasted his teen years. The story and art are all there, printed on the page in glorious black and white; perfect for reading!
The best part is you also get to see new art from the seasoned professional. Sure it's silly, but at the same time, it's fun too!

Accounting review
I used this book in statistics classes while working on a BS in accounting. This is a very good textbook. My instructors also compiled their own notes for the students which complemented the book perfectly. Many real-life and thought provoking examples in this book.

This is the best book for the family! It teaches all of us to be more productive just like the berenstein bears. Their competition with the eager beavers is a real life truth. The harder you work the more you'll enjoy its fruits. This book is excellent in that it teaches kids and adults alike about having a good work ethic.
